Course details
Reading your work on stage presents its own set of challenges: stage lights, stage fright, microphones (or no microphones), a strange sense of time, and a text that was once meant only for the page but now needs to be received sonically in a room. In this workshop, we will look at how to prepare for the technical and physical challenges of live readings, how to edit your work for the stage, how to read in a way that audiences can follow, and how to rehearse for the impending “performance” situation.
Ambika Thompson and Josepha Conrad bring years of stage experience as musicians, writers, and performers, and will help you rock your future readings. This will be scary and fun!
Bring some writing you would like to work with. Be prepared to experiment.
