Why Victoria Couldn’t Attend Summer 2015

Synopsis
I cannot be here because I am lying in the middle of a tiny road in rural France. It is dusk. My bicycle lies beside me. I’ve a broken collarbone, cracked ribs, shock, a phone that can’t tell me where I am and a fine view of the Alps as the sun sinks and the temperature drops and absolutely no cars go past.

If you’ve even considered writing a novel, this is the workshop for you. Over seven weeks, we will be breaking down the process and looking at the different ways of writing a novel. We’ll take a deep dive into plot, structure, characterisation and revision and discuss classic texts from a range of genres, analysing why the authors have chosen to tell their stories the way they have. You’ll develop an outline for your novel and have the chance to pitch your book in our very own “writers room”. You’ll also be invited to submit an opening extract for constructive feedback. Victoria has created this course to share everything that she wishes she’d known before starting out. She took the long way round – maybe you don’t have to! You’ll also have an opportunity to ask your questions about the publishing industry and learn how to find representation for your work.
