The next OPEN MIC – by The Reader Berlin – is back!
Our first OPEN MIC in February brought in 21 (!) amazing writers – so now we are BACK and ready to open the stage for the next round!
There’s no better practice for your writing than reading it out loud—and what better place to do it than at our new event: The OPEN MIC.
A very short story, a few poems, a micro-memoir or essay, or an excerpt from something longer – we want to hear it!
No feedback or critique – just an opportunity to share your work and get inspired.
And if you don’t have anything to read this time around — just come by for a drink and hang out/catch up with your fellow Berlin writers.
This edition of The OPEN MIC will be hosted by our very own WRITER MIKE: fiction tutor, writer and musician Michael Jeffery Lee!
Michael’s next class Writing Flash Fiction: Fast, Fierce, Compact starts on June 6, 2023.

Michael Jeffrey Lee’s first collection, Something in My Eye, received the Mary McCarthy Prize and was published by Sarabande. His second collection, My Worst Ideas, is forthcoming in 2023 from Spurl Editions. His stories have appeared in N+1, BOMB, The Rupture, and The Southern Review, among others. He has taught fiction at Tulane University, the University of Louisiana, and New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA). He was the recipient of the Yale Educator Award for his work at NOCCA, and a research fellowship from the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa, Berlin. He is also the vocalist for Budokan Boys.
