Children need diverse books: books where they can see themselves represented and books where they can learn about others. Yet, from 2007 to 2017, less than 2% of British children’s books were written by people of colour. That’s why The Reader, with Jessica Miller, would like to offer one scholarship place on the upcoming Introduction to Writing for Children and Young Adults evening course to a BAME writer.
If you’re a BAME writer and you’re working on a children’s story, or think you’d like to try writing for children, please send a brief sample of your best writing (up to one page) to hello@thereaderberlin.com. The selected applicant will receive one place on the course and, for up to six months after the course finishes, a free writing consultation on a piece of up to 10 000 words.
