E.B. White wrote: “Humor can be dissected, as a frog can, but the thing dies in the process and the innards are discouraging to any but the pure scientific mind.” But E.B. White also wrote: “Writing is hard work and bad for your health.”
And maybe that’s true. Why spend time dissecting humor when you can get busy discovering it? Whether you’re working on fiction, non-fiction, poetry, screenplays or an unannounced speech at your ex’s wedding, humor is a valuable resource. And it’s all around you. With this one-day generative writing workshop, comedian and filmmaker Trevor Silverstein will help you hone your instincts for what you find funny and how to pull those things out of your everyday life and into your work.
Through a combination of improvisational exercises, writing prompts and readings, participants will explore humor in a variety of ways. Above all, the focus will be put on specificity in detail, framing and heightening points of view, as well as playing around with absurdities. No matter what you want to work on, you’ll loosen up, have fun and leave the workshop a completely different person than you were before. That’s guaranteed or your money back.
All levels of writers, speakers and funny people are welcome!
